Question (complete): I have come to a crossroad in my life, and could really use some direction please… I have been with my current spouse for 2 years.. He has always been jealous and somewhat controlling and insecure… Lately it has become unbearable, and he totally ruined my Christmas.. Ana can be so sarcastic, takes nothing serious, and hardley helps me take care of the foster kids. I am always the one trying to save our relationship and I am tired. She never puts any effort into talking out our problems. Ana is also over weight and she told me she was going to make a change and start walking. Being a yorkie mom myself, I was holding my breath when I looked at this for you. It turned out to be a short simple answer. He is OK and will be returned to you.

Logically speaking, there are a few things you should do when your pet is lost.
One, Check the shelters RIGHT away. Go every single day. Some of them have very short holding times and many have long waiting list for yorkies and other small purebred dogs. They are usually adopted out immediately after the legal waiting time.

Contact every vet in your area. Many that find a lost dog will immediately take that dog to a vet. Make up a flier to post in each vets office with your baby’s picture. Do the same for all of your local groomers.

Contact the breed and small dog rescues in your area. You can locate many of them by going to http://www.petfinder.com and searching for a yorkie in your area. It will bring up “available’ yorkies, so you can see if your baby is among them. Even if he’s not, contact each of the rescue groups with a description of your baby in case he is with them but not yet listed or he is brought in later.

While you are on the petfinder site, check all the found ads and post a lost ad, its free. Put ads in the paper and run them for at least a month if your baby is not found before then. Offer a small reward but DO NOT pay anything until you have your baby back in your hands, as many scammers will convince you they have your pet to get the money.

Small purebred dogs are especially vulnerable to being stolen or not returned if they’re lost. There is a high demand for them. Some are kept by whomever steals or finds them and some are resold. ALWAYS microchip your dog. It helps prove who they belong to. In addition, I always put “Needs Medication Urgently” on all of my dogs tags. This increases the chance your dog will be returned. Good luck and we’ll keep fingers and paws crossed for you.

Let me ask you this, do you want to work it out? I get the feeling you don’t care one way or another. If that is the case, you should just end the fighting and walk away before it hurts more people, and you end up hating each other and fighting it out in a divorce court. I do see it could end there soon. Listen to your heart and gut and go from there. You need to sit down and talk things out to start with, and then it will go from there on its own. Be open and honest with each other. Its not going to be easy, but you have to work at it.
